Californian clinical psychologist, Dr. Roger Callahan PhD, discovered this unique form of therapy more than twenty years ago, although it has only recently become known in the UK and Europe.
TFT can be used to treat almost any psychological problem that might otherwise be treated with hypnosis. Problems regularly treated with TFT include addictions, anxiety, depressed mood/melancholia, fear, grief, insomnia, jealousy, pain, panic attack phobias, trauma and many other problems.
The key to TFT's extraordinary success is awareness of the natural code that governs psychological problems, and an effective treatment of the phenomenon of Psychological Reversal - a tendency for some people to unconsciously self-sabotage their own recovery, despite outwardly seeking to rid themselves of the problem. This therapy was used to great effect on 11 September 2001 to alleviate the trauma of those affected by the collapse of the World Trade Towers. TFT has also been used extensively in Kosova (American Professor Carl Johnson worked with TFT in Kosova). In a letter dated 01.11.2001, Chief of Staff Dr. S. Syla writes: "We referred our most difficult trauma patients to the Professor. The success from TFT was 100%. The Professor has been training our medical personnel in your amazing methods of psychotherapy and we are also having success now. As Chief of Staff of the Medical Battalion of K.P.C. I have full authority over all medical decisions in Kosova. I am revising this completely and starting a new national program. The emphasis of the national program will be Thought Field Therapy."
